Athletic training encompasses the prevention, examination, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of emergent, acute, or chronic injuries and medical conditions. Athletic training is recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA), Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)

What Is An Athletic Trainer?

An athletic trainer is a multi-skilled health care professional who renders service or treatment, under the direction of or in collaboration with a physician, in accordance with their education, training and the state's statutes, rules and regulations. As a part of the health care team, services provided by athletic trainers include primary care, injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergent care, examination and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.

Allison Blackwood

Allison Blackwood is a Birmingham native and is a graduate of Auburn University, earning her degree in May 2018 in Fitness, Conditioning & Performance. She then attended Lenior-Rhyne University in Hickory, NC for her Master’s in Athletic Training. Upon graduation, she began working in Winston-Salem, NC for Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist as a high school athletic trainer for a year and a half. She later worked for the Hughston Clinic, serving as a contracted athletic trainer for Recreation and Wellness at Auburn University until she was hired full-time in 2023.
