How to Make Water More Enjoyable

We all know we’re supposed to drink more water, but let’s be real—plain water gets boring fast. Between classes, workouts, and long days, being hydrated matters, but it shouldn’t feel like a chore. Here are some tips to make drinking water less boring!

Get a Bottle You Actually Like

If you don’t like the bottle you have, that’s an automatic no from your brain, saying you won’t drink from it. Invest in one that you like the look of, because you will be more likely to carry it around. Bigger bottles and straw lids also make all the difference. It’s easier to drink more, mindlessly, when you need a sip. Some brands that have good options are HydroJug, Owala, BruMate, and the OG: Stanley.

Temperature Can Change Everything

The temperature of your water can affect how much you drink and the benefits it offers. Ice water can be more refreshing, and for me, easier to drink throughout the day. Room-temperature water is good when you need to drink a lot of it. Warm water in the morning can be good for your stomach to aid with digestion. There’s no right way; it’s just whatever you enjoy and tend to drink more of.

Flavor, But Keep it Smart

If plain water isn’t working for you or you need a change, flavorings can make a difference. Things like Liquid I.V., electrolyte packets, and water enhancers can make hydration more appealing, especially if you’re on the go all day. Some have artificial sweeteners and added sugar, so they’re best used occasionally, not every bottle. Think of them as a fun boost to your water intake!

You can also add fruit combos such as lemon + lime or cucumber + mint for a remix with natural flavor, keeping water interesting all day.

Set a Reasonable Goal

Find goals that fit you and your schedule; setting something unrealistic will make your intake goal seem impossible. Frame it as habits, not numbers. To start, create goals like:

  • One bottle per two classes

  • Finish one by lunch and one by bedtime.

  • Drink water every time you eat, or a glass before the meal.

Make it a habit to drink water, not a requirement.

Drinking water doesn’t have to be boring. Find a bottle you love, experiment with temperature or flavor, and set realistic goals. Make it a habit, enjoy the process, and you’ll feel the difference in your energy, focus, and overall wellness.

Be Well, Auburn.
