The season of love is here, and in my opinion, it's always worth celebrating! As a serial optimist, Valentine's Day has always been my favorite holiday, regardless of my dating status. I love the idea of a day dedicated purely to acknowledging that love exists and is what makes life so special.
I challenge you to voice your love at least once this February. Why not?! How could expressing your gratitude and appreciation for something or someone you love ever be negative?
To facilitate your self-expressive journeys and really get you amped up for love, here are the top 15 love songs of all time (in my completely subjective but also entirely correct opinion).

Classics
It Had to Be You - Frank Sinatra
Come Rain or Come Shine - Ray Charles
Stardust - Nat King Cole
Starting with the classics, big band music is unparalleled for love songs, especially with Frank Sinatra or Nat King Cole on vocals. Dreamy, elegant, and passionate, these songs feel like the start of an epic romance.
Crushing
Only Over You - Fleetwood Mac
I'd Have You Anytime - George Harrison
Here There and Everywhere - The Beatles
I Need You - Lynyrd Skynyrd
For the all-consuming crush. I love how the lyrics of these songs promote unabashed expressions of love. Nonchalant, wishy-washy feelings are out... "I'm out of my mind. And it's only over you" is the type of energy I want to see this February!
Romcom
I Melt with You - Modern English
When I’m With You - Chris Stapleton
Just Like Heaven - The Cure
Fooled Around and Fell in Love - Elvin Bishop
Lighthearted and dizzying love. The kind that makes you feel 16 again. "I Melt with You" was featured in the movie Valley Girl. The quintessential depiction of 1980 teenage romance, which arguably can't be beat.
Pining
The Long and Winding Road - The Beatles
The World We Knew - Frank Sinatra
Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground - Willie Nelson
Sometimes relationships don't go as planned, but that's what makes the good ones feel so special. I think embracing longing can be good for the soul. It means you care, and care deeply. In my opinion, these three songs could hold their own against the finest poems of our generation.
Last but Not Least
Sentimental Lady - Bob Welch
I had to include this song as an homage to my parents' beautiful and ever-growing love. This is "their song." Sentimental Lady reminds us of the wonderful yet ephemeral existence of love, and not to take it for granted!
Truthfully, I could've added about 30 more songs to this list and still not have been satisfied. That's because all the best songs draw on the greatest inspiration of all: love! Happy Valentine's, don't waste it!
Be Well, Auburn.
