The "In-Between" Season

Welcome to the weird part of the year. Freezing temperatures and a winter coat in the morning but sweating by noon, with a thunderstorm that pops up out of nowhere. It’s complicated! One morning we are drinking steaming hot coffee, just for us to order an iced coffee the very next day. This time in March makes us feel awkward, unmotivated, and restless.

What this season actually feels like:
This is the moment when we start to get a glimpse of the end of our school year, meanwhile we’re anxious for the warm weather to arrive. Emotionally, everyone is tired, bored, yet still excited (often, all in one day). Physically, our energy is slowly but surely starting to come back as we recover from the winter blues. And mentally, we’re craving the change of the cold, winter weather.
Outfits:
These “middle season” outfits are the hardest to choose. For casual outfits, think about sweatpants or leggings with a t-shirt or tank top. Bring a jacket with you to better match the cold mornings and warm afternoons. Sweatshirts and shorts are a favorite because the sweatshirt keeps you warmer but you’re not getting too hot once the temperature rises.
To dress it up a little bit, you can never go wrong with jeans and a light top. In the warmer parts of the day, sundresses or button-ups are a great option.

Start fresh:
Now is the moment to forget your Winter habits, and transition into your Spring routines. Spend more time outside, start your spring cleaning, and take advantage of your time inside during pop-up storms!
The good that’s coming:
This chaotic time between Winter and Spring means there is so much to look forward to! This is the season where beautiful flowers begin to grow, and who doesn’t like flowers! Outdoor sports are beginning again. Baseball, softball, soccer, track, lacrosse, and so many other teams are preparing for their season. March means that warmer weather and Spring Break is right around the corner. Take a vacation to the beach, travel someplace new, stay at home, or do whatever you enjoy, making the most of your time off from school.

Trust the transition:
If you’re feeling “stuck” that’s normal. The season is about transition, not transformation. It’s ok to move slowly and inconsistently because Spring will arrive when it’s ready. Enjoy the in-between instead of rushing past it!
Be Well, Auburn.
